Summary of presentation

So the presentation today was interesting. Kind of annoyed at myself for speaking too fast as usual and presenting my idea in a less than coherent way.

I have to agree with the comment that my idea has too much going on almost as if it's compensating for something. Ironically I only put all that stuff in because I was under the impression that was what was needed. I guess I misunderstood what was required. As it turns out an interesting art deco diner with just a character or two sat in there done in the spirit of Hopper's Nighthawks would suffice.

All the stuff about the dustbowl, army guy and the lighting was sort of inserted to make it more interesting. I guess I felt like a 1930s diner was fairly straightforward.

However there is now a curveball in the equation which is the resurfacing of my original idea. This came to light when I found out that we were not limited by copyright on this project.

Since way back at the start of year 2 I knew what I wanted to do for my FMP - 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly'

This came about because I knew that I wanted to do a small environment and a few characters but I didn't know what i wanted the subject to be. However then it just hit me. I loved that film since my Dad first showed it to me when I was about 7 and the three main characters are incredibly interesting. I can't even begin to explain how much I want to recreate them in 3D. I have actually become obsessed with drawing their faces over the last year. The variety of facial features and structures between Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef is awesome.

My reason for not going with this idea for the presentation was because for some reason in my head i thought we had to be careful of copyright. I could swear i heard that mentioned at some point. Anyway, it doesn't matter because i mentioned this idea to Heather and was pleasently surprised at her reaction! She seemed to 'get' it straight away and i guess this is a testament to the film and the actors/characters themselves. She told me to get something together and come back next week and present it. So that is exactly what i am going to do.

As Heather put it, it would be really nice to pose them in a small environment and i was already thinking about this from the start since the graveyard scene is perfect for this. A friend and i have had a long standing plan to visit the site of the artificial graveyard in spain for a while. I think it's time i actually followed through on this. I need to find the link about that and post it up soon.

An additional reason i like this as a final project is because it really demonstrates artistic skill as well as technical skill. They are 3 extremely recognisable characters so i better get them looking right. I'm not too concerned about that though, i am more than confident enough in my ability as an artist.

On a side note I usually listen to western soundtracks when i digital paint so i think my working inspiration will feed directly into this project. For a few dollars more is mind blowingly good in my opinion. It's kind of overshadowed by the Good bad and the uglys theme tune though... I digress.

That's enough for now, i'm going to start digging up my old research. I'll start by finding the mapping coordinates of the graveyard again.

In the meantime enjoy a digital painting of Lee Van Cleef in all his Angel Eye's awesomeness.
