It Begins...

Today I decided to devote some serious time to the process of generating ideas and cultivating something I am passionate about working toward. I'm not naturally an ideas person. I can solve problems but I feel I lack the volition for truly original concepts.

Originally, I wanted to make, 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly' in 3D but upon reading the FMP guidelines I understood that it had to be my own work. Back at square one I tried my hand at a mind map.

I'll be honest, I've never done one before; for no good reason that I can think of.

Embarassingly the result took longer than I care to disclose. I begun with films and games that really inspired me visually and outlined their specific attributes that I like. Lastly, I tried to expand the themes with some of my own input and ideas.

From here I began writing freely producing an image analogous to a bar chart. (It is easy to compare how developed each idea is) It was intended to develop my range of ideas but it quickly became apparent there was more scope with the 1930s bar. Essentially I decided to follow my gut and pick it as a starting point.

I made another mind map with '1930s bar' at the centre which proved useful. I think I'll discuss my idea in more detail over the next few days as I solidify it in my mind. I intend to produce a short piece of creative writing to fully set the scene and introduce my idea.

One thing to note is that I realised early on that my idea contains a few cliches. I have tried to explore these and possible solutions in the following notes.

I feel that as long as I am prudent about the process through which I develop these ideas then my work will have depth and hopefully a slight hint of originality.
